Golf carts are also called golf cars since carts are not capable of self-propulsion. They refer to vehicles used to transport golfers across courses to save time and energy. They are items of convenience as well as luxury. Initially, the design allowed the vehicles to transport only two golfers, but a lot of change has taken place that they can ferry multiple golfers and golfing supplies. When in need of golf carts Sevierville is the best place to check out.

The idea of using motorized vehicles in golfing was borrowed from the use of three-wheeled electric carts to move old people to grocery stores in Los Angeles. The idea was borrowed by someone named JK Wadley. The first cart to be custom-made purposely for golfing was adopted in 1932. It was electric and was not accepted widely at the time.

People who could not walk over long distances due to disability were the ones usage of a cart in golfing was reserved in 1930s up to 1950s. Golfers only started adopting the vehicles on a large scale in the mid-1950s. There was a steady rise in the number of owners and producers alike. Sears, Victor Adding Machines, and Roebuck were some of the main manufacturers who many a large number of models.

Gasoline models appeared later on, but initially, only electric models were manufactured by most manufacturers. Most models were three- or four-wheeled. Many people up to this day seek three-wheeled models because of their uniqueness and antiquity. They comprised of tillers or steering wheels. The prices for old models are exorbitant and ownership is reserved to proud owners, collectors or restorers.

Golf carts form the main form of transport in many communities in the world. For instance, the Georgian city of Peachtree has many cart paths linking the whole city together. These vehicles are used for transport by many people, particularly students. McIntosh High School even has a parking lot specifically intended for them.

There are also many islands in the United States on which these vehicles are the main means of transport. There is sometimes restriction of motor vehicles to allow the cars to be used. Examples of such islands include Bald Head Island, Santa Catalina Island, North Captiva Island, and Hamilton Island. A retirement community named The Villages in Florida, which has a population of over 70 thousand people also permits golf carts in the streets.

As many people adopt the vehicles, so does the number of accidents related to them increase. Many people get involved in accidents that are somehow related to the cars. The most commonly experienced injury is soft tissue damage, mostly in the form of bruises or fractures. Other injury types include internal injuries, concussions, spinal cord injury, subdural hematoma, and acute respiratory compromise.

Injuries are caused by various reasons. Some of the most common causes of accidents include cart overturn, collision with a stationary object or another vehicle, and falling, jumping, boarding or alighting from a cart. Some people are also struck by a moving car.
