For years, Wisconsin has held the mark of being among the best states for cycling in the United States. A New Glarus bike tour will take you on an exploration of pure natural beauty, with rolling plains and lakes making up the top attractions in the area. Many other interesting sites are open for exploration, the famed local breweries being top among them.

The local tour companies usually plan for 3 to 8 day tours. It is advisable to travel with your bike if you have ample space for it in your car, but rentals are available from $100. Accommodation is also provided by most organizers, with standard rooms starting at $500 for five days.

It is advisable to engage your preferred tour firm prior to hitting the road so as to ensure the weather condition is right for outdoor excursions. Business always slows to a crawl during spring and winter. In summer, activities come back to life. Sending an advance email to confirm this aspect would be the appropriate thing to do.

The tour usually starts at Madison. There are miles of trails that follow the shores of lakes Monona and Mendota. The picturesque lakes are always filled with kayakers, sailors and paddle boarders. In summer, you will see lots of camping families by the many campgrounds that dot the lakeside.

The local trails mostly head out to the countryside. The sprawling farms and red barns regularly feature in the albums of many cyclists who stop by to snap them. A popular resting place for cycling parties is the Edgewater Hotel. It is constructed on a strategic area that allows unhindered views of Lake Mendota and the grand Capitol Dome.

The most visited cycling spot in the state is New Glarus, situated just a couple of miles away from Madison. It is a town that began in 1845 after the arrival of Swiss immigrants. Many visitors find its hills and cattle grazing on the sprawling farms a magical sight. The town streets are quite and dotted with chalets and Swiss museums. Be sure to get a drink at a famous brew pub in the southern section of the town.

The Madison city skyline is clearly visible from the town. There is an excellent road network that connects it to the city. Despite the low traffic on the roads, cyclists are always encouraged to cycle on the shoulder of the road. There are plenty of restaurants in town for a quick afternoon meal after a lengthy ride.

Lakeside communities, open prairies and sprawling ridges make up the eastern part of the town. Glacial activity significantly contributed to the formation of the unique landscape. The most historically significant archeological site in the area is Aztalan. It dates back to 1000 AD. This is an attraction you should not miss out on.

Lake Geneva is one of the attractions you should also cycle to. The landscape that surrounds it is heavily forested and full of bogs. Be sure to watch your path closely as you ride your bike. There is no shortage of restaurants around, so finding a good one for meals should be easy.
