Knowing a thing or two about keeping yourself from harm seems to be one of the requirements for urban survival today. Knowing pressure points can be an incredible factor in taking down an armed or unarmed opponent. Hit them strong as many times as you can, yet remember to do that just to disable temporarily the assailant, not kill him. Run when you have the chance to do so and do not act like those action starts from movies dealing with their opponents.

Of course, you have your own weak points too, just like any other person have. Protect them with your hands or dodge from incoming attacks when possible. Do not try any Kung Fu moves on the attacker since they are only good in the movies, not in actual scenarios of violence.

There are many centers of training around the country where you may go and enroll yourself. Just know if their style suits your character and whether the teachers and master have good reputation. There are some of them which are walking cash registers, so it would be better to make inquiries first.

Knowing the assailant is armed or not is also integral in the art of defending yourself. If the case is former, then it is better to give your wallet than to risk your life for it. You may lose your money but you can still recover it later, but not a life that was lost.
